Free Trauma Therapy for School-Aged Children in Washoe County
Do you know a child who has experienced trauma and is struggling with academic, behavioral, attendance, or other issues at school as a result?
At Thrive Wellness Reno, free trauma-specific therapy is available for children through the Trauma Recovery Demonstration Grant awarded to us by the Nevada Department of Education.
Eligibility includes trauma-exposed children in Nevada enrolled in:
- Preschool
- Elementary school
- Secondary school
- Home-school

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Skills Groups
Wednesdays at 12:00 p.m.
Led by Brayden Weninger, CSWI, DBT Therapist
Wednesdays at 5:30 – 6:30 p.m

Developed in the late 1980s by Marsha Linehan, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) teaches tangible skills for creating a life worth living – whatever that may mean to you. Linehan found that there are four aspects of life that are necessary to prioritize. Following the Linehan model, our clinical experts teach these four DBT skill sets: mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness.
*Thrive’s DBT support groups are open to clients who have a referral from their Thrive therapist
Adult Eating Disorder Recovery Support Group
Mondays at 11:30 (Virtual)
Led by Rachel Hald, LMSW, CSW-Intern Therapist
It takes time for your mind, body, and spirit to heal following a struggle with an eating disorder. In this free support group, you’ll learn to become more in tune with your body’s cues, work through any mental health struggles, and discover a thriving support network to foster your recovery.
All are welcome.
Adolesent Eating Disorder Recovery Support Group
Wednesdays at 3:00pm at Roy House
Led by Paige Schanbacher, MA, MFT-I, NCC Eating Disorder Therapist
This support group is for 12-18 year olds that have stepped down from HLOC or have been working with Thrive ED therapist, nutritionist, psychiatrist or physician.
We will discuss how to support one another through ED striggles, process struggles and strengths of the week, and engage in activities to work towards recovery and stregthen recovery maintenance. We will also eat a snack together.
Parent Eating Disorder Support Group
Wednesdays at 5:30 p.m. (Virtual)
Led by Julia Ottenstain, Clinical Intake Specialist & Therapist
Home, community, and connection await you in this group. this virtual support group is held weekly over zoom and offers a sense of empowerment through community.
As a parent with a child battling an Eating Disorder, feelings of isolation, frustration, and hopelessness are all too common. Connecting with other caregivers who know how you feel as a parent helping their child fight an Eating Disorder allows a deeper sense of connection and hope, and offers strategies you may not have thought of on your own.
Perinatal Loss and Grief Support Group
Thursdays at 5:30 p.m. (Virtual)
Led by Megan Meaney, LCSW
Begin healing from perinatal loss and grief while surrounded by understanding individuals facing similar circumstances. This free support group is intended for individuals struggling with miscarriage, stillbirth, SIDS, early infant death, molar pregnancies, and other perinatal complications.
Perinatal Mental Health Support Group
Thursdays at 9:30 a.m. (Virtual)
Led by Lauren Kalogridis, LCSW, PMHC, Perinatal Psychotherapist
70 to 80 percent of parents will experience the “baby blues” after a little ones arrives. Around 15 to 20 percent of new parents experience perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs), which interfere with their ability to find confidence and joy in pregnancy and parenthood. If you’re struggling with perinatal mental health, we welcome you to join our free support group which connects you to a community of healing.

As a parent with a child battling OCD or a related disorder, feelings of isolation, frustration, and hopelessness are all too common. Connecting with other caregivers who know how you feel as a parent with a child battling OCD allows a deeper sense of connection and hope, and offers strategies you may not have thought of on your own.
Our support groups are unique offerings designed to unite those with shared experiences and nurture healing through peer support and compassion. Participants are invited to engage in meaningful connection with an understanding community that can provide validation, empathy, and encouragement. Often, there are opportunities to explore additional resources available in the local community to foster further healing.
While guided by clinical experts, groups are not intended to serve as substitutes for therapy, psychiatry, or other clinical support systems.
