Outpatient Eating Disorder Services

FOSTERING FOOD FREEDOM AND SUSTAINABLE SELF-CARE

Eating disorders such as anorexia, bulimia, binge eating disorder (BED), and others are complex conditions that can have harmful effects on all aspects of one’s well-being and require specialized treatment.

When it is suspected that one is engaging in disordered eating behaviors or beginning to develop an eating disorder, targeted outpatient services can provide early intervention and prevent one from requiring higher levels of care. For those who complete higher levels of care programs, it is common and recommended to continue care through outpatient services to further foster long-term recovery.

Wherever you or your loved one may be on the road to recovery, targeted treatment will help you find holistic healing and lasting recovery.

Individual, Group, and Family Therapy

At Thrive, we offer individual, group, and family therapy for those struggling with eating disorders. In individual therapy, your therapist works with you one-on-one to help you identify the underlying causes of your condition, develop healthy coping skills, and repair your relationships with food and your body. Family therapy focuses on the family as a system or unit. Because much of the recovery process happens at home, family therapy supports members of the family in finding ways to heal together. Group therapy can be integrated into a larger treatment program or used on its own to help foster a sense of hope and support rooted in community. Group therapy unites participants who are facing similar struggles and provides a cathartic learning experience as individuals share their experiences, obstacles, and successes with one another.

Specialized Psychiatry and Medication Management

During initial assessment or at any time during treatment, medication may be presented as an option to encourage your healing. Our psychiatrists are educated and experienced in identifying, prescribing, and managing medications that are safe and effective for individuals recovering from eating disorders and related issues. Coupled with psychotherapy, medication can help you cope with any co-occurring mental health struggles such as anxiety, depression, and obsessive-compulsive disorder, among others.

Primary Care

Because eating disorders and disordered eating impact people physically, specialized medical treatment  is essential to eating disorder recovery. Our eating disorder treatment specialists and primary care providers work together to provide you with well-balanced health care that heals and nurtures your whole health.

Nutrition Support Services

Nutrition support services with a specialized registered dietitian (RD) are vital to effective eating disorder treatment and long-term recovery. An RD who specializes in eating disorder treatment can assess an eating disorder’s impact on eating habits, movement, and overall health, then provide ongoing nutritional support while helping an individual cultivate a more peaceful relationship with food and the body. This support incorporates guidance to eat in a way that provides adequate energy and includes a wide variety of foods while normalizing eating patterns and challenging the rules and rigidity dictated by an eating disorder. Well-rounded nutrition education is included and can further help each individual better understand the relationship between food and overall health. The ultimate goal of our nutrition support services is to help each individual find a way of fueling and moving their bodies that is authentic, balanced, and sustainable.
