Family Intensive Outpatient Program (FIOP) for Adolescents & Young Adults
Eating disorders are more common than many realize — especially among youth. Nearly thirty million individuals in the United States alone suffer from eating disorders, and 95 percent are between the ages of 12 and 25. With the highest mortality risk of any other mental illness, early intervention and immersive treatment are critical and often life-saving. Thrive Wellness Sacramento is passionate about providing comprehensive care that promotes lifelong recovery from eating disorders for individuals and their families.
Our multidisciplinary eating disorder specialists work together to provide evidence-based treatment that enables your family to receive expert care with minimal disruption to your daily obligations, including school or work.

Our FIOP begins with a seven-day family immersion experience which typically takes place between 9:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. on weekdays and occurs on a monthly basis. Two to four families may participate at once, and admission is open to local families and those outside the area seeking the best support for their loved one’s recovery.
Our FIOP for adolescents and young adults under the age of 18 involves 20+ hours of targeted treatment, which includes:
- Psychoeducation
- Nutrition support services
- Meal coaching
- Individual and family therapy
- Skills building sessions
- Parent support sessions
Following the immersion week, families will return to work and school and continue on the path to healing at home with the support of Thrive. Clients are encouraged to continue treatment through outpatient therapy with Thrive Wellness Sacramento to foster long-lasting recovery and enhanced well-being. Our team will work with you to arrange continued care that fits your family’s lifestyle and schedule.

FAQs
Our FIOP is ideal for patients who require more comprehensive eating disorder treatment than provided by their existing medical provider and/or therapist, yet cannot commit to or qualify for a partial hospitalization program (PHP) that interferes with daily obligations like school and work for a longer period of time.
The first step is scheduling an assessment. During the assessment, the patient and family will meet with a clinician to evaluate the eating disorder and any co-occurring conditions to curate the appropriate course of care. An individualized treatment plan will be recommended following the assessment. Next, our team will work with your family to schedule the initial seven-days of immersion experience and coordinate ongoing care.
Each patient and family participate in an intensive week of treatment that takes place over the course of seven weekdays typically from 9:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. This program is offered on a monthly basis.
Patients and families should anticipate missing seven days of school or work during the week of intensive treatment. After that, all services are scheduled around your work and school schedules as much as possible.
Sacramento hosts an international airport which makes travel to our area easy and convenient. Our team will gladly answer questions about nearby accommodations and is happy to assist families with securing lodging near the clinic.
Many insurance plans will pay for most of the cost of the program. Before beginning any treatment or services with Thrive Sacramento, coverage will be verified and an estimate of the cost will be provided.
